Charlotte Wine & Food Weekend
For twenty-five years Charlotte has hosted an annual Wine & Food Weekend in the spring. Like the name implies, it's all about cuisine and wine, attracting winemakers from around the globe with the chance to share their goods with an appreciative audience. This three-day event is one you won't want to miss if you have a palette for the finer things.

Christmas Town USA
It's located just a few miles west of Charlotte, yet driving into Christmas Town USA is like driving into another world. Bright lights hang from every tree and street post; decorated trees dominate lawns and storefronts. There's also an annual Yule Log ceremony where all the local children come together to haul a yule log into a fireplace in the town square. If you're at all interested in getting into the spirit, consider Christmas Town one of the must-sees of the holiday season.

Charlotte Irish Summer Festival
You don't have to be Irish to celebrate Charlotte's annual Irish Summer Festival, but it definitely earns you cred among the lively green crowds. Enjoy meals, music and cultural exhibits from Gaelic and Northern Ireland, educating yourself even as you enjoy all the food and arts of this unique European nation. You don't have to worry about keeping the kids entertained, either, because there's a little something for everyone regardless of age: Children can tucker themselves out in the "Wee Area" playground and bounce house while the adults grab a beer and enjoy live Irish bands among company.

Carolina Balloonfest
Go balloon-watching for a good cause! More than fifty hot air balloons participate in the Carolina Balloonfest, floating across the sky with beautiful colors and formations to the delight of everyone below. There's also live music and entertainment as well as a variety of games and snack booths. Best of all, a portion of all proceeds go to charity, so go ahead and send your annoying sister-in-law to the dunking booth. You're doing it for the children.
